Agency by Design. Maker Ed Research
Philosophy behind Making by design. Making centered learning isn't a new concept, recent trends suggest a new kind of hands on pedagogy that encourages community & collaboration, distributed teaching, boundary crossing, & responsive and flexible pedagogy. Agency by Design (AbD) is a research initiative investigating the promises, practices, & pedagogies of maker-centered learning. Our work is guided by three questions:

Sci4Kids
This kids science site (from the US Agriculture Service) encouarages kids to explore the world of science, with ideas on agriculture projects, neat stories and teacher activities.

California Foundation for Agriculture in the Class
The California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom works with K–12 teachers, and students to enhance education using agricultural examples. They offer school children the knowledge to make informed choices. Some students will choose agriculture as their life's work. All students, as future voters, will make decisions about agriculture.

The Food Timeline
From water and salt to tear-free onions, food has played a big role throughout history.
The Food Timeline was created by Lynne Olver, reference librarian and IACP member, in response to students, parents and teachers who frequently asked for help locating food history and period recipes at the Morris County Library (Whippany, NJ). This site is an independent research project.

Baking Tools
Baking Tools is an interactive computer-based learning resource that uses a game format to identify and describe the tools and equipment that are used in food preparation. The resource supports the Grade 10 Hospitality course and, more broadly, language acquisition, being particularly useful in helping ESL and language-deficient students to increase their oral literacy skills.
